KC: Good morning Major Reed. Thank you so much for taking a moment to chat with me before your flight out of Dulles International Airport. How is D.C.’s weather treating you?

Karl: Please, call me Karl. As for the weather, well… Let’s just say it’s been a cold winter. I’m trained to tolerate extreme temperatures, but surviving the desert heat is my forte, not the capital’s current arctic blast. I can’t wait to go back to the Middle East.

KC: Is that where you’re headed this Christmas weekend? Which city are you planning to visit?

Karl: I’m headed to Dubai for a…umm… vacation. It’s the commercial capital of the United Arab Emirates.

KC: Have you been there before?

Karl: Many years ago, yes.

KC: At the risk of sounding overly blunt—you don’t look like a soldier about to go on R&R.

Karl: In what sense?

KC: Well, you’re sure packing a lot of… equipment. I’m not quite certain how you got through airport security.

Karl: These little pea-shooters? They are the Airsoft variety, I promise. *winks*

KC: And that briefcase…

Karl: It’s a personal laptop. I like my electronics big and bulky.

KC: There seems to be a huge knife in your boot…

Karl: How else does a guy peel apples? By the way, I have to run. They’re about to board the plane.

KC: Okay. One last question–Is there anyone in particular you’re visiting in Dubai?

Karl: Yes.

KC: And he or she is….

Karl: My wife, Brennan. She’s been living there for the past two years.

KC: It was a pleasure spending some time with Major Karl Reed, but he has to catch his flight to Dubai. (Don’t miss the blurb below!)
